Rewarding adaption of F. Scott Fitzgerald's unfinished
tragedy about Hollywood and its movie moguls of the late 1920s
and 1930s. The character of Monroe Stahr is clearly based on the
legendary movie producer Irving Thalberg. Robert De Niro is remarkably
effective, capturing Stahr's power and influence in a subtly shaded
performance. Faithful, skillful screenplay by Harold Pinter.
